Adriana and Matěj Halouskovi are travel bloggers behind the successful blog Czech the World.
Matěj was born in Prague and has lived here his entire life and Adriana moved here more than 10 years ago.
We have traveled to more than 60 countries, but if we could tell you what place we know the most, it is our city.
I’ve climbed the towers, hiked the hills, and stood in the queues to figure out which Prague viewpoints are truly worth your time and effort.
This isn’t a list of every possible spot; it’s my curated guide to the best of the best.
I’m skipping the flowery descriptions to give you only the essential, practical advice you actually need — how to get there, what to expect, and my personal tips to help you capture that incredible view without the usual hassle. Let’s jump right into it
Map of the Best Prague Viewpoints
1) Old Town Hall Tower
- The View: One of the most famous postcard views of Prague. A direct, top-down view over the bustling Old Town Square, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, and the sea of red roofs beyond.
- Getting There: It is the tower attached to the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square.
- Cost: 350 CZK
- Practical Tip: This is one of the few historic towers in Prague that is fully accessible, with a modern glass elevator that takes you all the way to the top. It is the best option for a high-up view without climbing stairs.

2) Old Town Bridge Tower
- The View: The definitive “postcard” photo looking down the length of the Charles Bridge directly towards Prague Castle.
- Getting There: The tower is located at the Old Town entrance to the Charles Bridge. The nearest metro is Staroměstská (Line A).
- Cost: 250 CZK (350 CZK when combined with Lesser Town Bridge Tower)
- Practical Tip: The internal staircase is narrow and spiral. To avoid the worst crowds and get the best light for photos, go immediately at opening time or about one hour before closing.

3) View from near Bedřich Smetana Statue
- The View: A classic, ground-level waterfront view that perfectly frames the Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background. It’s one of the most famous photo compositions in the city.
- Getting There: The statue is located in a small park next to the Smetana Museum, on the Novotného lávka embankment near the Charles Bridge.
- Cost: Free.
- Practical Tip: This spot is extremely popular, especially at sunset. Go at dawn for beautiful, soft light and far fewer people. Look for the swans that often gather here, which can add a lovely element to your photo.

4) Petřín Observation Tower
- The View: The best 360-degree panoramic view of the entire city and the surrounding Bohemian countryside on a clear day.
- Getting There: BEWARE – The Funicular is currently in reconstruction (2025). The nearest tram station is Pohořelec. You can also walk there directly from Prague Castle.
- Cost: 250 CZK
- Practical Tip: If you choose not to pay for the tower, the hill itself offers numerous excellent and free viewpoints from its paths and gardens.

5) Letná Viewpoint – Hanavský Pavilion
- The View: One of Prague’s most classic and romantic photo spots, offering a framed view of the Vltava bridges from an elegant neo-Baroque building in Letná Park.
- Getting There: Located at the western edge of Letná Park, a short walk from the Čechův most tram stop.
- Cost: The viewpoint from the terrace outside the building is free. The building itself is a high-end restaurant.
- Practical Tip: This spot is famous for a reason. For the best photo, stand on the stone terrace just in front of the restaurant to capture the bridges lined up perfectly.

6) Letná Viewpoint II – Metronome
- The View: A stunning, expansive view that perfectly frames multiple bridges (Charles, Mánes, Čech) crossing the Vltava River.
- Getting There: Take a tram to the Letenské náměstí or Sparta stops, then walk through the park towards the river.
- Cost: Free.
- Practical Tip: The nearby Letná Beer Garden offers the same fantastic view from a casual, seated setting. This is a top spot for watching the sunset over the castle.

7) Letná Viewpoint III – Letná Beer Garden
- The View: A panoramic, tree-framed view looking across the Vltava River to the Old Town and New Town. It’s a wide, expansive cityscape vista.
- Getting There: Located within Letná Park. Take a tram to Letenské náměstí and walk through the park towards the river.
- Cost: Free to enter the area. You only pay for the drinks and food you purchase.
- Practical Tip: This is a top local spot, not a tourist trap. Seating is on simple benches under chestnut trees. Arrive in the late afternoon to grab a good table before the evening sunset rush.

8) St. Vitus Cathedral Tower
- The View: A breathtaking, close-up aerial view of the Lesser Town (Malá Strana) and the Charles Bridge from the heart of Prague Castle. You are directly above the iconic red rooftops.
- Getting There: It’s located within the Prague Castle complex (Tram 22 to Pražský hrad). The entrance is in the third courtyard.
- Cost: A separate admission fee of 200 CZK is required for the tower climb; it is not included in the main castle circuit tickets.
- Practical Tip: Be prepared for a strenuous climb up 287 narrow, spiral stone steps. There is no elevator. This climb is not suitable for those with mobility issues or claustrophobia.

9) View from Zámecké schody (New Castle Stairs)
- The View: A classic, charming view looking down a romantic, lamp-lit staircase onto the beautiful rooftops of the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). It’s one of Prague’s most picturesque and photographed spots.
- Getting There: The stairs connect the Lesser Town with Hradčanské náměstí near the main gate of Prague Castle. You can walk down them after visiting the castle. The street at the top is Ke Hradu.
- Cost: Free.
- Practical Tip: This spot is best photographed in the early morning to avoid crowds or at night when the gas lamps are lit, creating a magical atmosphere. Wear sturdy shoes as the cobblestones can be uneven.

10) St. Nicholas Bell Tower
- The View: An intimate, bird’s-eye view over the baroque rooftops and charming streets of the Lesser Town (Malá Strana), with a great angle on the domes of St. Nicholas Church itself.
- Getting There: Located in Malostranské náměstí (Lesser Town Square). Trams 12, 15, 20, 22 stop right there.
- Cost: 200 CZK
- Practical Tip: This tower is often less crowded than the Old Town towers. Inside, you can see a small exhibition about its use as a secret police lookout during the communist era.

11) Vyšehrad Fortress
- The View: A unique perspective looking north over the Vltava, southern Prague neighborhoods, and a distant city skyline including the castle.
- Getting There: Take the Metro Line C to Vyšehrad station and follow the signs on a short walk.
- Cost: Free to enter the grounds and walk the fortress ramparts. Fees apply to enter the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and other exhibits.
- Practical Tip: This is a far less crowded and more peaceful alternative to the main castle area. It’s ideal for a relaxing walk with excellent photo opportunities.

12) The Dancing House Rooftop
- The View: A fantastic riverside view looking north towards the Legion Bridge and Prague Castle. It offers a great perspective on the architecture along the embankment.
- Getting There: Located on the corner of Rašínovo nábřeží and Jiráskovo náměstí. The nearest tram stop is Jiráskovo náměstí.
- Cost: You can access the rooftop viewing terrace for a small admission fee, or it is free if you purchase a drink at the rooftop bar.
- Practical Tip: Buying a drink is the best value. It’s a great spot for a coffee or cocktail with a view, and it’s far less crowded than the main tourist towers.

13) Lesser Town Bridge Tower
- The View: An exceptional perspective looking east across the entire length of the Charles Bridge towards the Old Town. It offers a counter-angle to the more famous Old Town Bridge Tower view.
- Getting There: Located at the Lesser Town (Malá Strana) end of the Charles Bridge.
- Cost: 250 CZK (350 when combined with Old Town Bridge Tower)
- Practical Tip: This tower is almost always less crowded than its Old Town counterpart. The climb is rewarded with fantastic views of the river traffic and the Smetana Embankment.

14) The Orchard in Strahov Garden
- The View: A tranquil view looking over a historic orchard towards Prague Castle and the Lesser Town. It offers a unique green foreground that contrasts with the city’s architecture.
- Getting There: The garden is located on the slope of Petřín Hill, directly below the Strahov Monastery. The easiest access is from the Pohořelec tram stop (Tram 22).
- Cost: Free.
- Practical Tip: This viewpoint is serene and quiet. It’s an ideal place for a peaceful break after visiting the Strahov Monastery Library or before heading to Petřín Tower.

15) Vrtba Garden (Vrtbovská zahrada)
- The View: A perfectly manicured, tiered view from within one of Europe’s most beautiful Baroque gardens. The view looks over the rooftops of the Lesser Town, with the dome of St. Nicholas Church and Prague Castle as the backdrop.
- Getting There: The entrance is a discreet door on Karmelitská street in the Lesser Town.
- Cost: 150 CZK
- Practical Tip: Climb to the very top terrace (the gloriette) for the best and most complete view. Because it’s a “hidden gem” with an entrance fee, it remains an oasis of calm even on busy days.

16) The Powder Tower (Prašná brána)
- The View: A historic view looking down the grand Celetná Street (part of the Royal Route) towards the Old Town Square.
- Getting There: Located at Náměstí Republiky (Metro Line B).
- Cost: 150 CZK
- Practical Tip: Climbing this tower gives you a great sense of the medieval city’s layout. It’s a good alternative if the Old Town Hall Tower is too crowded, offering a different but equally historic perspective.

17) Klementinum Astronomical Tower
- The View: A stunning 360-degree view from the very center of the Old Town, offering a unique perspective surrounded by historic spires.
- Getting There: Located between the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. The entrance is on Mariánské náměstí.
- Cost: Access is by guided tour only, which also includes a visit to the magnificent Baroque Library Hall and the Meridian Hall. Price is 350 CZK
- Practical Tip: You cannot just go up the tower; you must join a tour. The view is the final part of the tour, so allow approximately 50 minutes for the entire experience.

18) Terasa U Prince
- The View: An unparalleled, direct, eye-level view of the Astronomical Clock and across the entirety of the Old Town Square, including the Church of Our Lady before Týn.
- Getting There: It’s the rooftop bar of the Hotel U Prince, located directly in the Old Town Square.
- Cost: The price of a (premium-priced) drink or meal.
- Practical Tip: Reservations are absolutely essential, often days or weeks in advance for a prime spot at sunset. Be prepared for high prices, as you are paying primarily for the exclusive location.

19) Riegrovy Sady Park
- The View: A relaxed, sloping hillside view looking across the Žižkov district towards the Old Town and Prague Castle. A famous spot for watching the sunset.
- Getting There: A short walk from the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station (Line A) or the Vinohradská tržnice tram stop.
- Cost: Free.
- Practical Tip: This is a local’s favorite. Bring a blanket and a few drinks to join the dozens of people who gather on the main grassy slope in the evenings.

20) Vítkov Hill (National Memorial)
- The View: A commanding, panoramic view over the districts of Karlín and Žižkov, looking straight down towards the city center. It offers a sense of the city’s grand scale.
- Getting There: It’s a bit of a walk. The nearest bus stop is Tachovské náměstí, or you can walk up from the Florenc metro station.
- Cost: The grounds and the view from the base of the statue are free. An admission fee of 120 CZK is required to access the rooftop observation deck of the Memorial building.
- Practical Tip: The rooftop deck of the Memorial offers the highest and best viewpoint. It’s often windy, so bring a jacket even on a nice day.

21) Žižkov Television Tower
- The View: The highest vantage point in Prague (93 meters up), offering a modern, 360-degree view from a space-age tower. You can see the entire city layout and far beyond.
- Getting There: A short walk from the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station (Line A).
- Cost: 350 CZK
- Practical Tip: Go on a very clear day to get the most out of the experience. The “bubble” chairs in the observatory are a fun place to relax and enjoy the view in comfort.
