Getting into town is painless once you know your options. Prague integrates its airport links into the same public-transport tariff that locals use, so a single 40 CZK / €1.60 ticket can already get you all the way downtown.
Below is the up-to-date overview, followed by step-by-step instructions and insider tips.
Quick comparison
| Option | Total time* | One-way cost | Runs when? | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trolleybus 59 + Metro A | 25–35 min | 40 CZK (regular PID ticket) | 04:30 – 00:30 every 4-8 min | Cheapest & fastest to Old Town / Wenceslas Sq. |
| Bus 100 + Metro B | 35–45 min | 40 CZK | 05:00 – 00:30 every 10-15 min | Hotels on yellow line (Anděl, Florenc, Nám. Republiky). |
| Airport Express (AE) | 35-45 min | 100 CZK (special fare) | 05:30 – 22:00 every 30 min | One-seat ride to Main Train Station. |
| Night bus 910 | 40-50 min | 40 CZK | 21:54 – 03:54 every 30 min | After midnight when metro is closed. |
| Uber / Bolt | 25-35 min | ≈ 700 CZK | 24/7 | Door-to-door with luggage. |
| Taxi rank (meter) | 25-35 min | ≈ 700 CZK | 24/7 | Pay cash/card, regulated prices. |
| RegioJet coach | 45-55 min | 100 CZK | 07:30 – 19:30 hourly | Direct to Florenc bus terminal. |
*Typical daytime journey; add a few minutes in peak traffic.

1) Trolleybus 59 → Metro A (Green Line) — fastest & cheapest
- Stop: right outside both terminals, marked 59.
- Route: Airport ➜ Nádraží Veleslavín (15 min).
- Transfer: follow green M signs straight into the metro station; lift & escalators available.
- Metro: 7 min to Muzeum (Wenceslas Sq.), 9 min to Staroměstská (Old Town).
- Frequency: 4–8 min daytime, 10 min evenings.
- Uses brand-new 24 m battery trolleybuses – more standing room than the retired bus 119.
When to choose it: Your hotel is anywhere along line A, or you value speed over a seated ride.
2) Bus 100 → Metro B (Yellow Line) — best for Anděl & Florenc
- Stop: outside Terminals 1/2, sign 100.
- Route: Airport ➜ Zličín (18 min).
- Metro: 20 min to Anděl, 23 min to Náměstí Republiky / Florenc.
- Runs every 10-15 min. Same 40 CZK ticket covers both legs.

3) Airport Express (AE) — one-seat ride to Prague Main Station
- Stop: “AE” bays in front of both terminals.
- Fare: 100 CZK (50 CZK children 6-14); PID tickets not valid. Pay driver (cash / card) or at the kiosk.
- Route: Airport ➜ Náměstí Republiky ➜ Hlavní nádraží (Line C metro, long-distance trains).
- Low-floor coaches with luggage racks, running every 30 min 05:30-22:00.

4) Night connections (21:54 – 03:54)
- Night bus 910: Airport ➜ I. P. Pavlova ➜ Kačerov ➜ Modřany (40-50 min).
- Night bus 907: Airport ➜ Hlavní nádraží ➜ Karlovo náměstí ➜ Anděl.
A single 40 CZK ticket still applies.
5) Door-to-Door Options
Uber & Bolt (Official airport partner)
- Fixed fare shown in the app, ~700 CZK (€27) to Old Town, plus 50 CZK airport surcharge.
- Meet-up point: follow “Ride-Shares” pictograms to the short-stay car park.
- Surge pricing can lift the cost 1.5-2.5× at weekend peaks.
Metered taxi
- Regulated max tariff ≈ 36 CZK/km + 60 CZK flag-fall → ~700 CZK downtown.
- Use the official rank or book by phone; avoid hawkers inside arrivals.
Private shuttles & RegioJet coach
- RegioJet yellow coaches run hourly to Florenc for 100 CZK, handy if you continue by long-distance bus.
- Pre-booked sedans/MPVs cost from €33 and include meet-&-greet.

Which option should you pick?
| Traveller profile | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Budget/Backpacker | 59 + Metro A (40 CZK) |
| Hotel near Line B (Anděl, Florenc) | 100 + Metro B |
| Heavy suitcases / mobility issues | Airport Express or Uber |
| After midnight arrival | Night 910 |
| Rail connection leaving from Main Station | AE bus |
| Group 3-4 people | Uber – cost split ≈ same as AE tickets |
How to Buy Prague Transport Tickets?
There are several options for buying public transport tickets:
A) Contactless ticket terminals
- You can find them in all trams, city buses, and metro stations.
- You can pay only with a contactless card.
- You can buy 30-minute, 90-minute, and 1-day passes. (longer passes are not available in these)
B) Ticket vending machines
- Automated ticket vending machines are available at all metro stations and some major tram and bus stops.
- They usually accept coins and banknotes, and some accept credit cards.
C) Official mobile app PID Lítačka
Another convenient way to buy tickets is to download the official mobile app PID Lítačka, which works on both Apple and Android.
- You can buy tickets and find a connection easily in this app.
- Be aware that you need to buy the tickets 2 minutes before entering the tram/bus/metro area (it’s like that to combat cheating).
D) Tobacco Shops/Newsstands
Many small shops and newsstands throughout the city sell public transport tickets.
Ticket Validation, Inspection, and Fines
How to validate my ticket?
All tickets must be validated before use. How to validate them?
- Ticket from the contactless terminal: it’s automatically validated, you don’t need to do anything.
- Ticket from a vending machine or tobacco shop/newsstand: you need to validate it using a yellow validator located in every metro station, all trams, and buses.
Always validate the ticket only once! If you transfer, don’t validate again! - Ticket from the mobile app: you need to activate the ticket and then wait 2 minutes before the ticket is valid.
Ticket inspections and fines
Ticket inspectors may check tickets on any form of public transport. If they find you without a valid and validated ticket (or if your ticket runs out of time), they will give you a fine.
| If you pay directly or within 15 days. | 1000 CZK | 41.2 EUR |
| If you pay later than 15 days. | 1500 CZK | 61.8 EUR |

Practical tips & common mistakes
- Validate only once. A second punch cancels your ticket and inspectors fine 1000 CZK.
- Buy your ticket before boarding unless you use the contactless validator inside the vehicle – credit-card only.
- Watch your pockets on crowded metro trains, especially between Muzeum ↔ Můstek.
- Large luggage? Remember the extra 20 CZK luggage ticket.
- Train line coming – but not yet. A direct rail link is under construction and unlikely before 2030.
- Check our complete guides to Prague Public Transport and Prague Tram Network.
Bottom line
For 90 % of travellers the new trolleybus 59 + Metro A combo is the sweet spot: fast, cheap, frequent, and greener than ever. Keep a 40 CZK ticket handy, validate, and you’ll be sipping coffee on Old-Town Square in half an hour.
